We all have the power to look at our stories, reflect, and begin to create the lives we desire. As a therapist, I try to create a safe, nonjudgmental atmosphere that is built on mutual respect and acceptance as I journey along with my client toward discovering meaning. I hope to establish a space that is accepting of all feelings and life experiences and open to the spectrum of emotion and personal expression. I believe that growth comes from honest, unique expression and that creativity is part of this process of self-discovery.
The responsibility for creating one’s life is an active process; art can help a person to make choices and contemplate possible results. Art making involves choosing materials, having the freedom to make choices, and creating unique meaning. Art can help a person work through feelings of grief, loss, fear, and pain. The nonverbal nature of art making may assist an individual in expressing strong emotions that are difficult to express in words.

My visual art tends toward the abstract. I love playing with subtleties in color and texture. I am deeply inspired by the incredible beauty that lies in our everyday surroundings. I am continually striving to be fully present in the process and more aware of the raw emotions the artwork evokes.
I create to make sense of the world around me. Recently, I have been gravitating toward photography and printmaking. I use photography to help me view the environment around me, to notice and appreciate details I may otherwise miss, and to grind me into the present moment when life seems to rush past. Much of my work involves depicting moments of unexpected beauty in an ever-changing world.

I have over 15 years of experience working with diverse conditions including autism spectrum disorders, emotional impairments, developmental and physical disabilities, traumatic brain injury, cancer, grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, stress management, life transitions, parenting, and end of life care. I have worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups. I have taught in a variety of academic and professional settings.
I have worked as an editor and writing mentor. My dissertation research was on the experience of creative expression in later life. I regularly publish short stories and am currently working on a book to continue my dissertation research. It is my hope to inspire others to continue to express themselves creatively throughout the lifespan.
